This is the latest feature from the ‘This week’s exhibition‘ section of my blog but because there was so much to see I thought I should make it into a proper post!

The Kinetica Art Fair, this year set across three days in March, is all about universal concepts, science and art, transformation, and interpretation. Along side the work that is exhibited there are workshops, talks, and performances with themes on time, transformation and energy. There is also an auction of some of the work.

Because this exhibition was so interactive and based on user experience and perception, it is hard to convey everything that was going on through photos, and even through video, as you will not get the full effect. Hopefully the images below will give you some idea of what I saw and inspire you to put Kinetica 2014 in your diary!

Some of the pieces, such as the one pictured above, were reminiscent of the work I saw a few weeks ago at the Light Show at the Hayward Gallery.

David John Rosewell: Puppets to our Creations, 2013
When you stood in front of it, the sensor screen picked up on your movement and the puppet mimicked your actions.
Auction estimate: £4,000 – £5,000

Some of the work was visually and conceptually more interesting than others. Often a simple idea can work the best, and the quality of the finish is really important. I liked the work below – the man running trying to stay on the turning vinyl. It was simple but executed well.

Roseline De Thelin: man 02, 2008
Auction estimate: £300 – £400

Aphra Shemza: Composition X, 2013
Auction estimate: £4,000 – £5,000

We got this wrong!

Mechanical Flipbook: Horse in Motion 2012
Auction estimate £3,500 – £4,500

Ivan Black: Light Helix I, 2013
Auction estimate: £2,700 – £3,500

As the object on the screen burnt, the chairs fell away from the table and the natural order was broken.

Aether & Hemera: Heart_Bit Lamp, 2009
When you put your finger over the sensor at the base of the lamp, the light reacted gently to your heartbeat.
Auction estimate: £950-£1,500

The centre icon rotated as it does on your computer when something is loading.
